Within a matter of weeks, Ryan Schreiber, the founder of Pitchfork and my former supervisor, will unveil his memoir, Weird Era: How Pitchfork Changed Music Forever. I’ve already read it, and much of it features Schreiber’s hindsight-tinged reflections on the pivotal moments that shaped Pitchfork’s history. Not surprisingly, he has contentious thoughts about Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, the indie outfit that received a major boost after Pitchfork sang the praises of their self-titled 2005 debut and that later became a symbol of—and perhaps a running joke about—the site’s star-making power. In any case, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah endure, and a new album is on the horizon.
Alec Ounsworth, the band’s sole constant member, spent the previous year marking the 20th anniversary of their debut with a tour and a reissue. In early 2027, they will release Burned, the first CYHSY record in more than six years. The lead single, “Fever Of The Mind,” presents a grand, sweeping, ardent slice of old-school indie rock that should feel incredibly comforting for anyone who was there at the time. It serves as a nice reminder of why Pitchfork initially championed these guys. Below, you can hear that track and view the 2027 tour dates for the band.
