Cosmic Joke, the Los Angeles–born band, fuses hardcore with the gleam of pop-punk, drawing on the melodic core of the scene that defined late-1980s SoCal. They earned our attention with a 2024 debut LP and last year’s covers EP featuring a gallery of guests crafted for wildfire relief, and there are whispers that a fresh batch of that material is ready to go. In November, Cosmic Joke will unveil Suburban Decay, a 12-track collection of bratty singalongs that channels the vintage spirit of Descendents/Adolescents. Among them, “No Threat” is available today. If you’re in the mood to bounce around with a joyful-then-angry energy for just under two minutes, backed by a standout walking bassline and a substantial breakdown that still packs pop appeal, this track is for you.
