Ryan Gosling’s music project Dead Man’s Bones is lining up a return after a 17-year gap.
The rock duo, formed by Gosling and Zach Shields, posted a clip on their Instagram on Thursday teasing fresh material slated for October 27.
In the teaser, a man’s face emerges from the center of a spiral and delivers a spine-chilling message.
“Dead man’s bones must wait to rise, from the house where shadows cry. All of this must change, when our ghosts must leave our world for this, to dance with us at twilight time, and bring your hand to lie in mine,” he proclaims before letting out a sinister cackle.
The screen flickers with the words “new music” as the voice of a young girl—likely one of Gosling’s daughters—shouts “October 27.”
The duo were active in the late 2000s, crafting songs about ghosts and monsters. Their only album, a self-titled record made with a children’s choir, arrived in 2009.
Eva Mendes, Gosling’s partner, had teased the comeback on social media earlier that day, writing, “Trying to coax fresh Dead Man’s Bones material. I can feel it in the air…”
She subsequently reposted the teaser video, noting that he kept his promise to me (black heart) @deadmansbonesmusic.
While Dead Man’s Bones paused, the Project Hail Mary star continued to display his musical talents on screen, appearing in films such as La La Land and Barbie. He performed Barbie’s signature song, I’m Just Ken, at the 2024 Academy Awards.
Gosling and Mendes have been together since 2011 and share two daughters, Esmeralda, 12, and Amada, 10.
