DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ stands out as a remarkably prolific creator of memory-soaked soundscapes, a dream-weaver whose work often feels like a tour through forgotten grooves reimagined with a contemporary glow. She seems to move beyond heavy reliance on vinyl, a detail that might tug at someone like Andrew Garfield when he contemplates her choice to repeat the word “DJ” in her stage name. Yet there is no other artist who can summon so much feeling by recombining obscure records with recognizable aesthetics. She can and should call herself whatever suits her art.
It’s been just under a year since DJ Sabrina released Fantasy, her most recent album. In the interim, she delivered a remix of Wednesday and released the singles “HeartsDesires,” “Still Standing,” and “Junior Beat.” On Friday, she indicated that a new album might arrive before the year’s end, and she unveiled the track “You Didn’t Tell Me You Didn’t Need Me,” a seven-minute, dreamlike excursion that gradually locks into a lush, funky groove infused with late-80s R&B textures. Check out the track’s video below.
In her Bandcamp alert email, DJ Sabrina confirms that “You Didn’t Tell Me You Didn’t Need Me” will be available on streaming services soon.
