Dolly Parton’s sister, Stella Parton, has shared Dolly’s last wish in a new conversation.
Stella Parton spoke about the country music icon’s passing during an interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings.
She described how faith remained central to Dolly’s life as her health faded, noting that Dolly asked for “prayers” in her final days.
“I know she was at peace,” Stella said in the interview. “She knew where she was goin’. She wasn’t goin’ anywhere bad. She was going to be with Mama and Daddy.”
She discussed how Carl’s death had affected her, but she insisted that it wasn’t the cause of her illness. “I know their relationship was very unique and very deep and loyal. And I think it broke her heart to see him in the shape he, you know, got to before he passed away,” she said. “But I don’t think that’s what made her sick. I think my sister worked so hard for so long and just kept going. You know, even to the last conversation I had with her, she was working. That was her passion.”
Stella recalled never seeing her sister without makeup “after she got to be Dolly Parton,” sharing how she “would sleep in her makeup when she’d come spend the night with me.” She added, “Oh, I knew what she looked like, of course! Because she looked like me without her makeup, so I knew what she looked like without it.”
