When Brian Borcherdt isn’t occupied with his primary role in the Toronto-based dance-rock collective Holy Fuck, he sometimes releases more intimate indie rock under his solo project, Dusted. Today, he returns with a fresh single titled “Black Tattoo,” captured live on a vintage Tascam 388, with guitar contributions from Alex Edkins of Metz and Weird Nightmare.
“Borcherdt explains that the take required several tries. With no click tracks used anywhere on this record, the performance tended to veer off the rails. Yet each version moved faster than the one before. After weighing the options, the band chose the first take as the winner.”
“The song moves forward, tracing the tension between control and release, between betrayal and perseverance,” he adds. It is accompanied by a music video directed by Michael Leblanc that follows Borcherdt and his daughter as they traverse the tunnels of the Toronto subway. Watch and listen below.
