Two performances on Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, a venue owned by Robert Kraft, have been cancelled.
The Shape of You singer was slated to perform there in Foxborough, Massachusetts, for back-to-back nights as part of the Loop Tour.
However, organizers have now confirmed that the shows will not proceed due to adverse weather conditions.
Messina Touring issued a statement: “Given the severe weather warnings across Boston and New England throughout the weekend and after speaking with local authorities, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Ed Sheeran concerts at Gillette Stadium.”
Refunds are available for ticket holders at their point of purchase, or will be issued automatically if tickets were bought through Ticketmaster.
The cancellation follows Macklemore’s announcement that he would launch a Free Palestine Tour after his schedule freed up.
Sheeran and his team had removed Macklemore as a supporting act from the Loop Tour due to “free Palestine” comments made during two performances in New Jersey.
According to Sheeran, the pressure came from promoters and venue owners, including billionaire Robert Kraft, who owns Gillette Stadium.
All remaining supporting acts on the Loop Tour — Finneas, Aaron Rowe, Lukas Graham, and Beoga — also withdrew in solidarity with Macklemore.
Last weekend, Sheeran returned to the stage for the first time since the row, addressing fans in the wake of the fallout.
“I’m used to my music being criticised, and I’m always happy to take that because I’m lucky a lot of you like me, and to be honest, I’m not surprised that other people don’t,” he began.
“You know, it’s normal. But this week the criticism was about something much more important, and I’ve had to take and make difficult decisions, and I am making mistakes, and I’m so, so sorry.”
Sheeran went on to admit that he never saw himself as an “activist musician” but has shifted his perspective after being thrust into the middle of the debate about freedom of speech and “the most complex political issue on the planet.”
