Ed Sheeran has revealed that he once believed The A Team would be his sole chart-topping hit.
The Grammy-winning artist brought his Loop Tour to SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Saturday (08.08.26) and reflected on the full-circle moment of his first US show taking place at nearby Inglewood’s Savoy Entertainment Center 16 years earlier.
Before launching into his 2011 debut single, Ed addressed the audience: “I played this track that night in Inglewood at the Savoy. This song has accompanied me through the last 16 years of my career. I’ve performed it at every single show since then. It gradually became a slow-burn hit around the world. I thought this song would be my only hit. I would have been happy if it were, because I love this song. But 16 years on, people are still filling up venues this size to sing this song with me, and I’m thrilled that tonight is in Inglewood. My first show in America was in Inglewood. It feels like a nice full-circle moment.”
Since then, the musician has gone on to rack up even bigger hits, including Shape of You, Perfect and Thinking Out Loud.
The 35-year-old singer-songwriter recently admitted he felt “jealous” of Alex Warren’s 2025 smash Ordinary during a surprise duet at his Loop Tour show at Petco Park in San Diego.
The performer opened up to the crowd about reaching out to the 25-year-old artist after being captivated by the track.
He told fans: “I met someone last year who released a song that I was jealous of. I loved the song.”
“We should sing this song together, I love this song.” He added that the younger artist sent him an email yesterday asking, “Can me and my family come to your gig in San Diego?” and he replied, “Yes, but I would like to sing with you.”
Ordinary spent 11 consecutive weeks at No.1 on the UK charts, marking the longest-running No.1 by a US male solo artist in more than seven decades and tying with Ed’s own Bad Habits for the decade’s joint-longest-running chart-topper.
