A Friday night performance by Ella Langley in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was cancelled mere hours before showtime.
An Instagram statement from the country artist cited a “serious security threat”.
“Describing a grave security threat affecting fans, venue staff, and the artist, Ella Langley’s planned show at Tulsa’s BOK Center was cancelled,” the post appeared just before 5 p.m. local time.
“Protecting the safety and welfare of everyone involved is our top priority, and after thorough consideration, we have determined that the event cannot proceed. We recognise the disappointment this news may cause for fans who had planned to attend, and we apologise. The safety of our fans remains our utmost concern and will always come first.”
The Tulsa Police Department reported that they had swept the area and found no credible threat.
“A sold-out concert was cancelled tonight over threats of violence,” read a statement on the police’s Facebook page.
“As with any major event, the Tulsa Police Department takes extensive measures to ensure safety for attendees and those coming to perform. Before the event, the area was swept by K-9 units, the Bomb Team, patrol and security for potential hazards. No threats were found.”
“A call was made threatening the lives of people attending the event. Out of an abundance of caution, we swept the building and surrounding area and again found no credible threat to the event’s safety. We advised the performer’s staff that we found no credible threat to the event, but they decided to cancel the performance anyway.”
The police asked for the public’s help on its Facebook page, offering a cash reward for information.
Langley is currently touring as part of her Dandelion Tour, a name drawn from her new album that includes the track Choosin’ Texas. The single has recently set the record for the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
