Eminem has publicly defended the verse he contributed as a guest on Kid Rock’s latest faith-themed record.
The rapper stressed that their decades-long friendship outweighs any political rifts between them.
Kid Rock rolled out his new LP Halfway 2 Jesus on Friday, with Eminem, another Detroit native, appearing on the track Heal My Faith.
The collaboration drew criticism from some of Eminem’s fans who were surprised to see him team up with Kid Rock, a prominent Trump supporter in the music industry, given Eminem’s past criticisms of the president on songs such as Campaign Speech.
Hours after Halfway 2 Jesus was released, Eminem took to social media to defend the musical pairing.
He stated that the move wasn’t about choosing sides, but about making music with an old friend and sending prayers for everyone.
Kid Rock expanded on the partnership in an interview with Billboard.
He noted that they have been friends for four decades and that he did not want to drag Eminem into his political arena.
He added that the two old friends sometimes discuss politics “a little bit, not a tonne.”
“There are a lot of things we agree on, and we can laugh about the things we don’t. That’s why I asked him to write a verse for me,” he explained.
