Jay-Z is poised to appear in a documentary about his life and work.
The rapper and music executive will sit down with producer Rick Rubin across eight installments in a series titled Jay-Z in 8, scheduled to debut on HBO later this fall.
Rubin will direct the project and conduct conversations that delve into the artist’s music, lyrics, personal experiences and creative process. The collaboration is familiar, as Rubin previously produced Jay-Z’s 99 Problems for The Black Album in 2003.
The announcement arrives after a landmark year for Jay-Z, who has been gearing up celebrations to commemorate the 30th and 25th anniversaries of Reasonable Doubt and The Blueprint with a global slate of performances.
He returned to the stage in May as a headliner at Roots Picnic in Philadelphia, performing a set that drew from his vast catalog.
In July, he is set to play at Yankee Stadium in The Bronx, New York, for three consecutive nights to honor these milestone anniversaries.
Jay-Z, a 25-time Grammy winner, is married to singer Beyoncé, and together they have two children.
He made history in 2017 as the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and in 2021 he became the first living solo hip-hop artist inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
