Last year, Jess Kerber released her debut LP, From Way Down Here, on Felte, a trusted Los Angeles label. She now returns with news of a follow-up, The World Is Dark, But I Want It To Be Funny. The existential, lush lead single “Changing” lands today.
“Everything is always cycling through, big and small, and in these songs I am realizing how much energy even little things require,” Kerber says of the track. On the album, she adds, “Everything is written by me, alone in a room, and when I start to think too much in the moment, I often lose what I’m trying to say, so that singular focus is an essential part of the process.”
The record was largely tracked in Kerber’s home studio with Will Orchard, and she elaborates, “Recording in our home space can be a lengthy affair, but it suits our pace; we’d tidy up after dinner, brew some coffee, and record a few takes… we didn’t feel the need to push anything.”
