Jimmy Eat World has scrapped two festival appearances after their frontman, Jim Adkins, required an emergency operation to repair a detached retina.
The Arizona-based alternative rock and emo group were slated to take the stage in Mexico City on September 13 as part of their Warped Tour, but just before they would perform, Adkins observed a shadowy haze spreading across his vision.
In a post shared on Instagram titled “Tour update,” Adkins explained, “With some quick research, I knew I had to seek medical help immediately. After an exam, it was discovered that I had a detached retina and needed surgery ASAP.”
“Per doctors’ orders, attempting to do the show could have caused permanent damage, so we had to make the tough decision to cancel our performance.”
Adkins has undergone the operation and is now back at home, beginning the recovery process.
As a result, Jimmy Eat World, famous for their 2001 smash hit The Middle, will not be appearing at the Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky, nor at Shaky Knees in Atlanta, Georgia.
Adkins closed by saying, “We are disappointed to be missing you. Take care of yourselves, listen to your body and we’ll be rocking with you all again soon!”
