Karol G continues to have her tour outfits taken in as she sheds a significant amount of weight due to the intensity of her high-energy performances.
During a recent appearance on The New York Times’ Popcast podcast, the Colombian singer-songwriter described the months of preparation she underwent before kicking off the Viajando Por El Mundo Tour.
She explained that she is constantly moving on stage—dancing, singing, and sweeping across the space—making physical conditioning the primary focus for the show. She added that almost every week, or every two weeks, she needs to adjust her wardrobe because her weight is dropping rapidly.
The Ay, Dios Mío! star, born Carolina Giraldo Navarro, joked that shedding so much weight feels horrible because it affects her muscular tone.
She elaborated that it’s awful trying to maintain her muscles, and the cardio routine is incredibly demanding; after the performance she spends another hour and a half in training and even stays to do a cold plunge.
In another part of the discussion, she opened up about the pressure of carrying Colombia’s representation on the world stage.
She admitted feeling somewhat overwhelmed on the road as she tried to harmonize all aspects of her identity—from being a woman in the industry to her aim of empowering other women to pursue their goals, and also to show the world who Carolina truly is while honoring her Latino roots. Joy, she noted, comes after the effort, and the journey often brings self-questioning along the way.
For the rest of the year, Karol G has a string of performances lined up across the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Colombia.
