Liam Gallagher sparks backlash after claiming Oasis revived The Beatles’ prominence

October 7, 2026

Liam Gallagher has stirred up Liverpool locals and Beatles enthusiasts with his latest barb.

It’s widely known that Oasis drew inspiration from the legendary Merseyside outfit, with the 54-year-old frontman of the Britpop act even naming his son Lennon, now 27, after the late John Lennon.

However, when it concerns his cherished football club, Manchester City — Liverpool FC’s rival — he seems unconcerned about whom he offends.

This time, he asserted that Oasis “put The Beatles back on the map” and also aimed jabs at any Scousers who criticise his band or his home team.

Liam posted on X: “All these Scousers talking down to me and my band; Oasis have done more for the city of Liverpool than they ever will. Oasis revived the Beatles’ profile, which they no doubt profit from, ungrateful little sods MCFC LG x. (sic)”

The bold claim drew responses such as: “To be fair, Liam, if it wasn’t for the Beatles you’d be working in Home Bargains…”

Another X user replied: “I like Oasis. However you’re not even a footnote compared to the Beatles.”

Liam has teased The Beatles before. He previously boasted that his 2024 self-titled album with John Squire was “bigger” than the Fab Four’s 1966 classic Revolver, the record that spawned Eleanor Rigby and Yellow Submarine. In 2023 he told one X user: “It’s the best record since Revolver.” When another follower called it a “big statement,” Liam shot back: “What’s coming your way is bigger… I’m being humble, it p* all over it.”

Proving it’s all bravado, Liam hilariously once quipped: “The Beatles could s* in my hand bag I’d still hide my polo mints in there.”
