The new spinoff The Drop: A Snowfall Saga shifts the focus to Wanda Bell and Leon Simmons as they navigate 1990s LA, a period when West Coast rap was expanding its global reach. The series airs on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET; it debuted last week and returns with a fresh installment tonight. It features a track that had not been released before from a prominent LA hip-hop icon who is no longer with us.
“LA Theme Song” showcases an unused verse from Nipsey Hussle, the late artist who left us seven years ago. Although brief—about a minute—it is a potent reminder of his voice. The soundtrack was crafted under the supervision of Rance Dopson, co-founder of 1500 Or Nothin’, who worked with Nipsey during his lifetime. A “Behind The Beat” featurette about “LA Theme Song” notes that the Nipsey verse was originally laid down for his 2018 single “Dedication” but was cut to make space for Kendrick Lamar’s guest spot.
