In Concord, New Hampshire, FFO: Chillin cultivates a sound that feels warm, comforting, and instantly familiar, yet somehow defies straightforward description. They basically craft generous, and sturdy, indie-punk anthems reminiscent of the ’90s, with sporadic hardcore breakdowns, and their tracks tend to run very short. Last month, they unveiled “All I Know,” their first single for the hardcore-forward label DAZE, and I watched them open for Joyce Manor and Glitterer in Charlottesville. They came off as carefree and a touch sloppy, but incredibly entertaining. Today, they’ve released another song.
“Perpetual Motion,” FFO: Chillin’s new release, is a brisk and buoyant rocker that feels like it’s teetering on collapse but never actually does. The video, directed by Evan Warren, largely features ultra-grainy VHS footage of the band live, with a quick and welcome flash of Rachael McAdams from Mean Girls.
