Josh Homme admits that, in his youth, he found goth girls irresistible as he unveils a new Queens of the Stone Age track titled Where the Goth Girls At?.
The new song is the third single taken from the rock band’s ninth studio album Perfecth, which arrives October 30.
Musically, it pairs pared-down riffs with a striking group chorus enhanced by orchestral strings and brass. Homme notes that the piece draws from memories of his Palm Desert adolescence, centering on teenage romance and the impulse to make an impression.
Discussing what sparked the single, Homme recalled: “I watched goth girls behind the counter at JCPenney and giving goth makeovers to older women—the moment I realized the only place I wanted to be was where the goth girls are. Teenage love, what a spectacle?”
Alongside the song, a video for the track has surfaced, bringing back directors Christopher Gruse and Tony Wolski, who had collaborated with the band on Easy Street.
The visuals include comedian Steve Agee, dancer-artist Scarlett Kapella, vocalist and actress Lou Lou Safran, plus members of Queens, all amid a generous splash of black tattoo ink. Filmed in an abandoned power facility, the gothic cohort dominate the scene, reshaping everyone they meet.
Following the album’s prior singles Insignificant Other and Easy Street, the track continues to hint at Perfecth’s blend of macabre humor, emotional heft, and experimental sonic textures.
Recording sessions spanned from New Orleans to Los Angeles, during which the group described the music as fearless, moody, and intentionally diverse. “Each track feels as if it hails from its own realm,” and he explained that the aim is to weave together various feelings tied to love, desire, folly, and the kind of insight that arrives through navigating those experiences.
Josh said: “Every song sounds like it’s from a different world.” And that’s on purpose, because it’s trying to stitch together all these emotions revolving around love, lust, foolishness, and the sort of wisdom that comes as a gift from all that.”
Queens of the Stone Age recently resumed their North American stadium tour with Foo Fighters on September 15, and have announced a run of headline dates across Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Singapore for later in the year. Newly added is a March 6, 2027 show at Mexico City’s Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes with Interpol, with more dates to follow.
