Radie Peat – Hares Upon the Mountain

October 16, 2026

Radie Peat, the voice at the heart of Dublin’s Lankum, has a gift for transforming folk music into something stark and ominous. She’s now directing that same sensibility toward a solo venture. Peat’s debut solo album No Human Tongue Can Tell is set to arrive next month, and we’ve already put out her tracks “Still I Love Him” and “The Moon And Stars,” with the latter earning Stereogum’s top song of the week when it debuted. Yesterday, Peat kept the momentum going by releasing the album’s opening track.

Opening the record, Peat offers her interpretation of “Hares On The Mountain,” a traditional English folk piece best known from Shirley Collins. It serves as an ideal showcase for Peat’s steely, otherworldly voice and the doom-laden arrangements she favors. It feels like the last sound you hear before a ghostly druid claims your soul. Listen below.

No Human Tongue Can Tell is out 11/13 on Rough Trade.

I write about music as a cultural signal, following the artists, scenes, releases, and movements that shape how people listen today. My work focuses on discovery, context, and the stories behind the sounds that travel beyond borders.
