Much has unfolded since Shygirl released her 2022 debut album Nymph, which earned a spot on the 2023 Mercury Prize shortlist. The British rising talent joined Charli XCX and Troye Sivan on their sweeping Sweat Tour, appeared on the Brat remix compilation, issued a string of EPs, featured in Charli’s The Moment and Madonna’s Confessions II – The Film, and most recently kicked off a new chapter with a track titled “Alyse.” She is now unveiling her sophomore album Swallow!
The new single “Lucky (hymn)” is out today. “This album unraveled during a period in my life when I felt genuinely loved and content,” Shygirl wrote on Instagram. “I’m grateful for all the routes that carried me to that moment, and I’m excited to share music that keeps bringing me back to that feeling again and again. It’s raw and jagged and lush and lovely. It serves as a reminder to myself that it’s okay to be stubborn, and that bliss found in oblivion can sometimes be the most harmonious of states. If there’s one principle I stand for, it’s the pursuit of love; to love and be loved and all the emotions in between. I’m deeply grateful for everyone who has supported me and helped this record come into existence. Especially [Karma Kid]! We began with Lucky, so it feels only right to announce this new track as my hymn.”
“Lucky (hymn)” marks a shift away from her club-focused sound, leaning into a dreamy guitar-driven atmosphere rather than a jittery beat, though faint electronic glints remain. It arrives with a music video directed by Shygirl in collaboration with Austen Taylor Pease. Watch below.
Swallow! is scheduled for release on 11/6 via Because Music. Pre-order it here.
