Birmingham, Alabama isn’t exactly where you’d anticipate finding a glossy, jangly indie-pop sound, yet the world is vast and full of surprises, and the unexpected happens with regularity. Over the past few years, Slack Times from Birmingham have been refining their bright, woozy take on indie pop. Today they announce their forthcoming album Casting.
Slack Times issued their debut EP Up Here in 2021, followed by a full-length record in 2022 titled Carried Away, along with a series of singles and EPs. The lineup has undergone a few changes, but the band’s core has consistently revolved around the trio of Chris McCauley, Abby Anderson, and Stuart Norman. Casting is slated for release this autumn and marks their first project with new bassist Jonathan Ruiz. The lead single “Goodbye” offers a pretty, propulsive twinkle, and you can hear it below.
