Slash indicates Guns N’ Roses are likely to assemble their forthcoming material during a planned hiatus in 2027.
The American hard rock icons issued two new songs, Nothin and Atlas, in December 2025, their first fresh material since 2023’s The General and Perhaps.
Speaking on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, Slash offered an update on the long-awaited Guns N’ Roses studio album and the band’s upcoming plans.
He noted that the remaining November–December shows in India, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand would be completed, and that 2027 would essentially see Guns N’ Roses on hiatus. He added he hopes to meet the challenge of organizing a large stash of material and to shift into a new creative phase.
He expanded that there is a vast body of material scattered in various places, which requires substantial time and focus to gather and begin turning into something workable.
He explained that touring schedules simply don’t lend themselves to productive writing sessions on the road.
According to him, writing while touring comes naturally to him, and he tends to stay up late to work. He noted that Duff McKagan and Axl Rose pursue their own paths, so members often write solo on the road, and bringing everyone together to write while touring is nearly impossible.
Guns N’ Roses hasn’t issued a full studio album since 2008’s Chinese Democracy, a project that did not include any of the classic lineup except for Axl Rose. Their previous album before that was The Spaghetti Incident? in 1993.
Their last date of the 2026 tour is scheduled for December 17 in Aukland, New Zealand.
Prior to that, the Paradise City veterans are set to appear as special guests at California, Dream On: Aerosmith and Friends, a two-night tribute to the Walk This Way legends at the Hollywood Bowl on October 29 and November 1.
