Spirit Ghost: Dungeon Crawler Adventure

October 19, 2026

I’m a sucker for a catchy, senseless chorus, and Spirit Ghost’s latest release gives every reason to belt out a string of “bah bah bahs.” The Boston outfit’s new track “Dungeon Crawler” evokes a retro 60s garage rock vibe, artfully braided with a hint of psychedelic swirl. It brings to mind The Mysterians, King Khan and the BBQ Show, and that Ryan Gosling project Dead Man’s Bones. The single hails from their upcoming EP Dark Magic, slated for release in January.

Beyond the spooky moniker, the song carries an unsettling tension. One line — “Momma I hear your call from behind the dungeon wall,” — lands with a lingering sadness.

The band’s Alex Whitelaw explained that the track centers on “the psychological toll of modern living — feeling trapped in circumstances that make people increasingly exhausted, disposable and powerless. The song moves between frustration, defiance and resignation, asking what happens when struggling against your circumstances eventually gives way to simply learning how to crawl through them.”

I write about music as a cultural signal, following the artists, scenes, releases, and movements that shape how people listen today. My work focuses on discovery, context, and the stories behind the sounds that travel beyond borders.
