Former frontman Isaac Eiger led the New York indie pop outfit Strange Ranger. After the band’s dissolution, he launched solo material under the moniker Threshold. In 2023 and 2024, we highlighted his tracks “Dream All Night,” “Century,” and “Baby.” Eiger took a pause from releasing new music for a while, but he resurfaced yesterday with a fresh track titled “Stillwater.”
He hasn’t been idle during the hiatus. Since releasing the 2024 mini-album Thief, he has earned writing credits on records by ADÉLA, Chanel Beads, and Frost Children, and he also handles bass duties with the New York ensemble Voyeur. Threshold remains his vehicle for old-school, stripped-down singer-songwriter fare, and that’s precisely what “Stillwater” delivers. It unfolds as a graceful midtempo piano ballad with a chorus that tugs at the heartstrings; I’m not sure if there’s any relation to the band from Almost Famous. Below, you can watch the Daniel Patrick Brennan-directed “Stillwater” video and catch Threshold’s upcoming live dates.
