The New York-based duo Straw Man Army crafts a distinctly cool variant of psychedelic post-punk, layering krautrock-driven propulsion and sweeping concepts into their records. Two years prior, the pair released Earthworks, the concluding installment of a trilogy that began with their 2020 debut Age Of Exile. Now they reveal True North, a fresh take on a concept album that ventures into an entirely acoustic realm.
To bring True North to life, the members retreated to a woodland cabin north of New York City. Across three successive 72‑hour sessions, they composed a suite of songs tailored for acoustic instruments. The lead single “Striking Home” carries the same psychedelic post-punk edge as their earlier releases, and it’s clear they didn’t shy away from using effects pedals. Yet the acoustic approach imbues the track with a pastoral, intimate atmosphere, adding a compelling new dimension to the band’s voice. Listen below.
