In the previous month, Danish producer Trentemøller unveiled his forthcoming self-titled LP, introducing the lead cut “Terrified,” featuring Mew’s Jonas Bjerre. Today, the project offers another early look via the track “Swerve,” featuring Sakura, a singer born in Hong Kong and based in Vienna.
The track is a gritty, metallic incantation. Guitars bite and circle Sakura’s slender, jittery vocal lines. “‘Swerve’ was the first song I wrote for the record,” Trentemøller said. “I grasped the vocal melody almost instantly, and the whole arrangement—chords and the guitar riff—fell into place quickly. I wanted it to be brutal and beautiful at once, to shock listeners a little when the guitars and everything kick in in the opening bars. Sakura’s voice meshes so well that it almost becomes another instrument.”
