Back in 2000, at nineteen years old, Tami Hart drew the attention of the queer and feminist punk underground with her debut LP No Light In August, a collection of intimate folk-punk songs released on Mr. Lady Records. She hit the road with Sleater-Kinney and Indigo Girls and followed with a more rock-leaning sophomore effort What Passed Between Us in 2002. Since then, Hart’s musical output has largely been funneled into the outfits Making Friendz and MEN, though she stepped back into a solo spotlight with the Thanks For Saying Hi EP in 2023.
Now she’s poised to unveil her first solo album in 24 years. The self-titled LP was produced by Ted Leo, and it’s slated for a November release on Don Giovanni. Larz Brogan of Palehound handles the drums, with Adrienne Lloyd on bass. Marissa Paternoster of Screaming Females contributes lead guitar on “Palisades,” and Leo appears on several tracks. Hart co-wrote the closing track “Song You Sing The Loudest” with Heatmiser’s Neil Gust. The takeaway is clear: a host of impressive veteran indie talents were eager to lend a hand.
Lead single “All I Do Is Sit Here” is a driving blend of grunge and power-pop that fans of Colleen Green’s I Want To Grow Up will likely adore. Listen below.
