Tate McRae is preparing to issue her first fresh track since the release of her 2025 album So Close to What.
The Sports Car vocalist has revealed on social platforms that a new song titled Housewife will drop this Friday (09.10.26).
So far, there’s no confirmation whether Housewife will feature on a forthcoming album or form part of a broader project.
The track arrives just days ahead of the 23-year-old pop star’s scheduled performance at the 2026 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on October 18.
Tate has previously explained that her songwriting begins with preserving what she terms the “most extreme open mind.”
The singer behind Greedy concedes that in music “every key has been played,” yet she believes she can craft meaningful songs through her own “unique perspective”.
When asked what defines a hit, Tate told Billboard that you must approach writing with the most extreme and open mind; otherwise it’s the most uninspiring work. “Everything’s been done before—every key has been played, every word has been used. All you have is your own unique perspective.”
Tate points to Greedy, her 2023 hit, as a turning point in her career.
The track — co-written by Tate, Amy Allen, Jasper Harris and OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder — served as the lead single from Think Later, her sophomore studio album, and went on to achieve global chart success.
Asked which of her tracks have been most meaningful to her, Tate said Sports Car is among her favorites, noting it was a lively and fun song to write.
Greedy held deep significance for me. Reflecting on that period, I was lost at nineteen, with the burgeoning singing career feeling daunting; it marked one of the first times when I gained clear vision about the path I wanted to pursue visually and sonically.
Tate says Lana Del Rey is the artist who influences her music the most, while also admiring Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Dean, Olivia Rodrigo and Gracie Abrams.
