Taylor Swift has set two Spotify benchmarks for 2026.
The 36-year-old singer-songwriter recently issued The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, a release that brings four fresh tracks to the fold: Patient Zero, Cleveland!, Pink Clouding and Babylon.
Patient Zero established the single-day streaming record for a female artist in 2026, while Swift led all female artists in daily streams across the year, according to Variety.
In a note to fans on Instagram, Swift explained the motivation behind releasing Encore, saying: “About a year ago, you guys did something truly unfathomable. Something that completely blew my mind… You gave The Life of a Showgirl the biggest first week for an album in history. I flew to Sweden to celebrate with Max and Shellback, my collaborators on this project. Really we just wanted to reflect and absorb how grateful we were for the moment we were in, but there was a studio there and we did what we do when we feel anything at all: We wrote more songs. I hope you love them, because they were born from pure gratitude for your enthusiasm for and celebration of the album we made.”
Meanwhile, Swift refers to her new husband Travis Kelce — whom she wed in July — as the “love of my life” in the track Cleveland!, which is named after the Kansas City Chiefs tight end’s hometown.
She conveys: “She’s not as hot as she used to be, but she was only a four / She wasn’t really the type who cherished girlhood norms, she was simply a… / And with all that wealth, why dress like trash? / When she smiles, it’s irritating, and have you seen her / Stumbling awkwardly? / Would you even call that dancing?”
And later, she opens up about her affection for Travis.
She writes: “Something we can all agree on / But my baby likes what he likes. / He already took me to Cleveland / And showed me The Heights, so hate all you want / This is the love of my life.”
The song’s bridge adds: “You only need to find one person in this entire world / Who doesn’t find you completely insufferable / And I have an important announcement to make / I found mine.”
Patient Zero portrays Taylor offering a shoulder to lean on for an ex’s new partner, prompting fans to speculate that it nods to the support she gave Sophie Turner after Turner’s split from Joe Jonas in 2023.
Pink Clouding finds Taylor lamenting the way she treated a former partner who was good to her.
She sings: “Years later, I still wonder how to say sorry / I didn’t want to let you down / So I left you high and dry on a, pink cloud.”
And in Babylon, Taylor contemplates hindsight in love, lamenting the parts of a past relationship she feels she missed.
She notes: “You never realized it was Babylon until it was gone.”
