Taylor Swift returns with her first fresh release since the lavish Madison Square Garden wedding that drew plenty of chatter. Before this drop, her latest track was June’s Toy Story 5 tune “I Knew It, I Knew You,” and now she extends The Life Of A Showgirl era with an Encore edition that adds four new songs.
The Life Of A Showgirl: The Encore isn’t the sole alternate version of her 12th album. At launch, the pop icon shattered a contemporary sales record by tallying 34 variants of The Life Of A Showgirl. On Wednesday (Sept. 23), Swift shared a message to fans:
About a year ago, you all did something truly mind-bending. Something that completely stunned me… You gave The Life of a Showgirl the biggest first week for an album in history. I traveled to Sweden to celebrate with Max and Shellback, my two collaborators on this project. We mainly wanted to pause, reflect, and feel grateful for the moment we were in, but there happened to be a studio there, and we did what we do when emotion strikes: we wrote more songs. I hope you love them, because they rose from pure gratitude for your enthusiasm for and celebration of the album we made. The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, featuring four new songs, drops on Friday and is now available to pre-order and save.
The additional tracks are titled “Patient Zero,” “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding,” and “Babylon.” Swift first teased “Patient Zero,” updating her Instagram bio to read “And, baby, that’s sh0w business f0r y0u” and presenting it as a single. The song comes with a video featuring Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell, and it is slated to premiere on Sunday (Sept. 27) at the VMAs, where she will be the first artist to receive the Artist Director Honors.
