Tegan and Sara: I Love Christmas and A December to Remember

November 8, 2026

With Thanksgiving near, the season’s annual flood of festive tunes is already underway. Olivia Rodrigo just dropped a Christmas track, and Tegan and Sara are following up their recent single “Our Year” with not one, but two holiday songs: “I Love Christmas” and “A December To Remember,” both produced by Kate Cooper of An Horse. Tegan shares:

I began crafting some music with Kate Cooper for a project connected to our 2024 graphic novel Crush. Those songs never saw the light of day, but after I finished my latest middle-grade book, Merry Christmess, I revisited a couple of them and figured, why not turn these into Christmas tunes?

I’m a Christmas fanatic. I own three Christmas trees. I watch a Christmas movie every day in December and listen exclusively to Christmas music. Like many sane people, I actually prefer the buildup of Christmas to the day itself. By Christmas afternoon, I’m usually feeling rather down.

A lot of people view Christmas as a commercialized, capitalist nuisance, but I genuinely love the traditions, the nostalgia, and the excuse to spend time with people you love while making new memories.

While we were recording these new songs, our Australian engineer confessed she hated Christmas music when I arrived at the studio. Halfway through tracking vocals, she admitted that “I Love Christmas” was a banger and started referring to me as “Tegan Turner.”

These tunes are for folks who adore Christmas, but also for those who don’t. As I sing in “I Love Christmas,” even if you despise Christmas (these songs), I’m happy to love it for you.
