There’s Room for All: EXO Denounces Rivalry Among Girl Groups

October 19, 2026

Rising UK girl group XO insist that there’s no rivalry among women in the music scene at present, despite society’s habit of pitting female artists against one another.

The five-member act, whose debut mini-album Need To Know is out now, stress that everyone can shine in their own right.

Emmy Statham told ContactMusic.com that it doesn’t feel like a contest, noting they’re opening for Manifest, which demonstrates how female groups can coexist. She praised FLO and Say Now, calling the space for women in music truly empowering.

Reanna Sujeewon highlighted that it’s possible to admire artists who share a similar vibe.

She added: “Society enjoys pitting women against one another. When I was growing up, I admired Beyoncé and Rihanna simultaneously. There is room for everyone.”

The group earned a major endorsement when the Spice Girls credited their cover of the ’90s hit Say You’ll Be There, performed on BBC Radio 1’s Future Pop show at Maida Vale Studios.

Emmy recalled: “We learned about it just three days earlier. We fan-girled, then steadied ourselves. Performing a Spice Girls tune and receiving their acknowledgement felt unreal.”

When asked about being compared to the Spice Girls, she responded: “They were five carefree, boundary-pushing girls who built a brand by staying true to themselves. That’s the vibe we’re chasing—keeping things light, creative, and not taking everything too seriously.”

Discussing other female groups, XO express gratitude for the chance to open for Turkish act Manifest at OVO Arena Wembley that evening (16.10.26), their biggest concert to date.

Zoe Miller added: “This stands as our most significant milestone so far. We aim to warm up the crowd for Manifest and stay fully in the moment. Their fanbase is amazing, and we’re thrilled to be part of it.”

Need To Know is available to stream on all major platforms right now.
