Travis Scott is dedicated to carving out a career behind the camera as a filmmaker, pursuing roles as both director and producer.
The rapper behind Sicko Mode has taken on acting credits in multiple projects, such as Gully, Aggro Dr1ft, the anticipated Rolling Loud, and, most recently, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
Although he enjoys acting, he believes his strengths lie in conceiving his own concepts, envisioning himself as a producer, director, composer, and sound designer.
“I’d like to take on more acting work,” he told Variety, praising the dedication of the artists who grind day in and day out. “But I think my brightest potential lies behind the camera. I enjoy acting, but directing and producing feels even cooler.”
To pursue this aim, Scott spent long days on The Odyssey’s set—from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m.—shadowing director Nolan and cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema whenever he wasn’t in front of the camera.
“No one was in their trailers,” he recalled. “That was new for me; I usually finish and retreat to my trailer, but I was eager to learn, so I didn’t plan to hide there.”
On set, the 35-year-old peppered Nolan and van Hoytema with questions about their approach to filmmaking, and he watched the director’s monitor as the shots were framed.
“I’m peering into the camera, completely immersed in the rig,” he said. “There’s no slacking off.”
Asked what lessons he drew from observing Nolan, Scott replied that one should stay true to the vision and never fall short of it.
The performer, who portrays the Bard in the epic, has prior experience directing music videos and the companion film Circus Maximus tied to his 2023 album.
Meanwhile, he is set to develop film and television projects for Paramount Pictures under a new first-look pact, while Scott and his Cactus Jack label have not yet revealed their forthcoming slate.
