Troye Sivan has revealed that his upcoming track She’s the Best is inspired by a tight-knit circle of female friends who have shaped his life, among them Charli XCX, Lily-Rose Depp, and Ariana Grande.
The Australian pop star even asked his Boy Erased co-star Nicole Kidman to appear in the music video for the title track from his soon-to-be-released album, a piece that serves as a tribute to the women who have inspired him.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, he described the song as a mosaic of people from his life, with certain lines clearly connected to particular individuals. He said he feels most at ease when he stands beside a woman and invites those around him to notice something together, as if asking them to see what he sees.
He added that, as a gay man, having the chance to make music with Ariana Grande is meaningful; Lily-Rose Depp is a very close friend, with whom he spent roughly a year and a half filming The Idol. He also recalled touring with Charli XCX and growing up alongside her. Professionally, he says he has always loved being in the orbit of these women, and the project reads like a heartfelt homage to all of them.
The 31-year-old singer also addressed whether a collaboration with Addison Rae is on the horizon after they were seen hanging out online. He explained that, honestly, there are no plans for a collaboration. He admires Rae as one of the generation’s standout talents—bright, bubbly, and carrying an undeniable star quality.
He recalled a moment in a wig shop on Hollywood Boulevard where Rae stepped into a window and wore a large red wig, pulling off all sorts of wild antics while he stood nearby, phone in hand, snapping countless photos of her.
Sivan also praised Addison Rae’s debut album, Addison, slated for release in 2025, calling it genuinely among the best pop records of the last fifteen years. He described the album as clear, inspired, and cool.
