William Basinski Unveils New Album ‘Passing the Cup of Sorrows’ — Listen to ‘Passing the Cup of Sorrows 1.1’

August 31, 2026

William Basinski’s most recent full-length solo release arrived in 2020 with Lamentations, though the celebrated composer has kept busy with a host of collaborative projects since then. Today he unveils a fresh solo piano LP titled Passing The Cup Of Sorrows. “Passing The Cup Of Sorrows 1.1” is out now.

The project draws its impetus from a video Basinski encountered describing a spiritual hypnotherapy practice known as “passing the cup of sorrows.” Passing The Cup Of Sorrows unfolds as a single 40-minute piece that blends subtle electronic textures with a solitary piano.
