Zara Larsson has announced that she will not chase the Best New Artist Grammy ahead of the 2027 ceremony.
The Swedish singer-songwriter explained that she does not view herself as a rookie artist, having released five albums over the years, even though Midnight Sun marked a breakout moment in the United States.
In a recent interview with Perfect Magazine, she revealed that her former label — which she parted ways with earlier this summer before signing with a new imprint — had been weighing submitting her for Best New Artist at the 2027 Grammys.
“Speaking with my former label about this, they suggested they might nominate me for Best New Artist at the Grammys,” she said. “I don’t even want that. It would diminish the 13 years I’ve spent as an artist. I’m not a new artist.”
The Lush Life singer, who has spent more than a decade releasing music, said she’d prefer to be described as a “breakthrough” artist.
“That’s why I like ‘breakthrough,'” she told the publication. “It feels like the whole world is watching me at the same time. In the past, one track found success here, and another, a year later, found success somewhere else.”
She added, “Now it seems everything is finally aligning quite nicely.”
While Larsson has enjoyed steady success, Midnight Sun has propelled her onto a higher plane.
Nevertheless, at 28 she would be ineligible for Best New Artist since she has already been nominated for a Grammy.
Zara earned her first Grammy nomination in November 2025 for Midnight Sun, which was up for Best Dance Pop Recording. The trophy ultimately went to Lady Gaga for Abracadabra.
