Detroit-based experimental rapper Zelooperz and the avant-rap producer Black Noi$e have collaborated extensively over the years, and they are poised to unveil a previously shelved record they tracked nearly a decade ago. The duo began working together in 2017 while both artists resided at Bruiser House, the headquarters for Danny Brown’s Bruiser Brigade collective. Across roughly two years they cut a full collaborative album, finishing it in 2019, only to misplace the hard drive where it lived. Black Noi$e later recovered that drive, and the resulting album, titled Pin Breakers, is scheduled for release next month.
Pin Breakers draws its name from a shoulder injury Black Noi$e sustained at a Glendale bowling alley, and it marks Zelooperz’s first release for Earl Sweatshirt’s Tan Cressida label. The project features a single guest appearance, Danny Brown. The leading single “Beautician” arrives as a hazy boom-bap workout that bursts with personality despite clocking in at just under a minute. Watch/listen below.
